Dr. Eli Chang is an assistant professor of Ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute, Keck School of Medicine of USC. His clinical interests include diseases of the eyelids and lacrimal system, and orbit and cosmetic surgery of the facial area. He has a special interest in the treatment of thyroid eye disease. Current research endeavors include projects to reanimate paralyzed orbicularis oculi muscles for treatment of facial nerve paralysis, ocular burn rehabilitation, and bioartificial lacrimal gland development.

Harvard

Dr. Chang completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology & Oncology and a two-year fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic, Orbital & Cosmetic Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School. He then served as the Division Chief of Ophthalmic Plastic, Orbital & Reconstructive Surgery in the Doheny Eye Institute / USC Department of Ophthalmology for 8 years.

During his tenure at the Doheny Eye Institute, Dr. Chang published numerous works on innovative new surgical techniques while earning numerous awards and honors including the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award. Dr. Chang completed his undergraduate work at UCLA and earned his MD from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He completed his residency training at the New York - Presbyterian Hospital /Cornell School of Medicine.

Dr. Chang is an internationally recognized expert in the field of ophthalmic plastic, orbital & reconstructive surgery. He has been invited to lecture around the world on various topics including treatment of thyroid eye disease, facial fractures, ophthalmic oncology, and pediatric oculoplastic surgery.

After completing much of his training on the East coast, Dr. Chang was thrilled to return to California. Much of Dr. Chang’s extended family calls Southern California their home. An additional bonus is the easy access to the Taiwanese food Dr. Chang loves! He is proud to join Eye Physicians of Long Beach’s 33 year tradition of excellence.

When not in the office, Dr. Chang enjoys surfing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as well as participating and coaching in the sport of the season for his children. Dr. Chang and his wife, Eugenia love traveling to new and interesting locations around the world with their three children, Isabella, Gabriel and Rafael.
